Placeholder ImageSpeedbird Offshore Yacht Club has evolved from the British Airways staff yacht club to being a dynamic and fun club, open to non-BA members, with a range of fun, social and training events.

Today it is a company limited by guarantee, run by the members for the members. Membership is open to BA serving and retired staff, with a proportion of places open to others.

The Club was formed in 1965 and members are indebted to those who guided the Club to its position today.

The new boat "Speedbird of Hamble" is the fourth club boat of that name, For members interested in the Club’s history, the original boat in 1965, Dainty, was followed by Eccola and Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival, a Rival 32 and the club's first 'serious offshore' boat, was purchased through the personal contributions of members. Ownership was entrusted to BA Clubs. It is ropesnoteworthy that Safe Arrival was the first boat to venture on long distance cruising, crossing the Bay of Biscay and wintering in Majorca.

Safe Arrival was followed by the first Speedbird of Hamble then, Jambel, the second Speedbird of Hamble (1995, a Beneteau 39), Mystic, Jetstream of Hamble (2001, a Bavaria 34), the third Speedbird of Hamble (2002, a Bavaria 34), Concorde (2003, a Bavaria 36)." And now the latest Speedbird, a Bavaria 37 in 2006.

Currently there are in excess of 250 members, and then the boats are only running at 80% of capacity
