Lymington Town Sailing Club

Passage notes:

  • Really needs to be done when low water is early afternoon, you can then time the trip to have fair tide in both directions. Otherwise it'll be a long day
  • As it will be approaching Low Water when you arrive at Lymington, do not be tempted to take a shortcut to the river entrance; it's shallow a long way out. Keep the yellow racing buoys between you and the mainland.
  • Watch out for the IoW car ferries! They tend to skid sideways round the river's corners so sometimes they take the corners wider than you might expect.
  • It is best to contact the club in advance (01590 674514) to check the pontoon will be available.
  • Personally, I prefer this trip in Westerlies, so the return is a relaxing run and wind with tide
  • If you do this trip in winter, it'll be dark by the time you get back to the Hamble.

Facilities:

  • Club bar is open 12-1500 at weekends. The food looks good.
  • If using the club pontoon, it is expected (and only fair) that you buy a drink or meal.
  • Remember to sign the visitors book, including the boat name, and as a curtsey introduce yourself at the bar.
