Maintenance
updated 17/08/07
In order that we can do some of the maintenance on the boats ourselves, we have also appointed a Duty Bosun team . More Duty Bosuns are required so if you have a keen interest in the technical side of boats please contact VC Operations.
Many of our skippers have expressed a wish to play an active role in ensuring the boats are well maintained and to this end, the Duty Bosuns will be compiling spare part kits for the boats. More about this at the Skipper Forum in September. I hope to see all our skippers there.
The annual maintenance of our boats, together with any urgent tasks that cannot be handled by the Duty Bosuns, will be handled by Hamble Yacht Care.
The process for reporting urgent faults or safety issues is:
- Raise an online defect log
- Contact the next skipper
- Contact the Bookings Secretary, who will in turn either contact the Duty Bosun or give you the Duty Bosun’s name. It is hoped that in the near future this information will be available to you on the bookings website.
All non-urgent faults should be reported by raising an online defect log.

Cleaning Decks and Cockpit
We are still able to use water to hose/clean down the decks and cockpit on departing the yachts.
On board Speedbird, under the sink, 2 large bottles of “ECO” (as in Round the World boats) washing up liquid. It is biodegradable and 3 squirts will be sufficient to wash the entire boat and appears to make a really good job.
Also in the deck locker there is a telescopic soft deck brush which is much more suitable for the deck than the hard bristle, gets into all those nooks and crannies round the cockpit, works up a really good lather and reaches down the transom to sugar scoop.
Concorde should be equipped by the end of July.
