The club has three types of club skipper: SOYC Day Skipper, SOYC Coastal Skipper and SOYC Offshore Skipper.
The three types of club skipper are based on the RYA Sail Cruising Scheme. However, the minimum experience requirements differ from those required for the relevant RYA certificates. .
The committee must formally accept a member who meets these requirements and who wishes to become a club skipper. This function is delegated to the Senior Training Skipper (STS).
- The minimum age for a club skipper is 18 years.
- All skippers must be full members of Speedbird Offshore Yacht Club.
- All skippers must have Internet access with e-mail facilities
- All skippers must meet the requirements to maintain their status.
