Welcome to the Speedbird Offshore Yacht Club web site, which I am sure you will find useful and informative.sailing-2

SOYC has been providing affordable offshore cruising to British Airways personnel and retired staff, their families, and Affiliate members for 40 years. Based throughout this time in the Solent, the club now operates two boats from Port Hamble Marina. The Hamble is one of the UK’s premier sailing centres and is known throughout the sailing world as ‘the heart of British yachting’.

The club encourages everybody to participate and gain the maximum enjoyment out of the sailing, and wide range of on-the-water and off-the-water social events.

In 2005 the club changed its status from being a section of the BA Club London to become a limited company and a BA Club in its own right. There are approximately 250 members plus about 50 junior members. Successful, friendly and welcoming, SOYC’s object is to provide opportunities for sail cruising while operating to the very highest standards of seamanship. Members are able to join one-day Solent trips through to cross-Channel passages or our annual cruises based, for example, in the West Country, Channel Islands or Brittany.

Whilst many members will be happy sailing in crew berths others wish to progress through the RYA training schemes to become club skippers. The club is an RYA recognised shorebased training centre and runs practical courses in conjunction with a local sailing school using our own qualified instructors.

Lunch-in-CherbourgWhether you are an existing member, have recently joined, or are thinking about joining us, please browse the site. If you can’t find what you’re looking for or would like more information, contact one of the committee members who will be happy to help.
